‘Aspects of Alfrick’ open gardens enjoyed a wonderful day on Monday 4 th June as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
Who would have thought that after 12 hours of rain on the Sunday (although this did not stop the thousands of people watching the Queen and the Jubilee Pageant down the Thames), we could have had such great weather for our event – a little cold but when the sun shone and the blue skies returned the day was glorious.
A total of 217 visitors attended and enjoyed 12 fantastic gardens, including several new ones, and a guided walk in Ravenshill Woodland Reserve, together with locally sourced ploughman’s and afternoon tea with homemade cakes. The excellent news is that our profit was £1408 and this has been donated as follows:
Martley & District Nurses Care Fund £704.00
Alfrick and Lulsley Village Hall £704.00
Having spoken to many visitors their feedback on the gardens and food was tremendous and included “just like Chelsea”, “the quality of the gardens are amazing”, “very friendly and approachable hosts”, “great to see so many people with a passion for gardening” “lovely to be so warmly welcomed” “fantastic food”, “ please can we have the cake recipes”.
Thank you to all who took part – either as an open garden, a volunteer at the Village Hall or a visitor – your support is much appreciated and we look forward to our next, bi-annual, event in 2014. If you live in the area and would be interested in opening your garden (you have two years to prepare!) please let me know on 01886 832659.
Best wishes, Bridget
